How to Be Positive in a Negative World

We live in dark times. If you’re not mindful: it’s easy to get caught up in all the negativity. The news is full of bombings and war not to mention higher costs of living. The president is some negative fat dude who everyone hates. No worries however: in this article you learn how to be positive! For more detail this book will cover positivity much like the information in positive thinking books.

Politicians such as Zoran Mandani are bringing back positivity such as late 90’s hip hop. It’s all about bringing the positive vibe and not being a Hater. Don’t get caught up in The Hate, spread love! Anyways: here are 5 ways you can be a light in the dark: today.

1. Practice Gratitude with Journaling

What is positive psychology? To me looking on the bright side is the heart of the positive psychology meaning. One great way to practice gratitude and look on the bright side is by journaling. You can start today by just writing down 5 things that you are grateful for. If I were to do this it would be simple.

  1. I am grateful to have a life (at all).
  2. I am grateful I was born in the US: where the standard of living is high.
  3. I am grateful to have caring friends and family.
  4. I am grateful to have the opportunity to write.
  5. I am grateful to have the opportunity to help other people live better lives.

This was my list of things I’m grateful for. Please try your own!

2. Meditate for 10 Minutes

Meditation is very simple and complex at the same time. If you are wondering “how to be happy”: this is the best way I’ve found. I’m sure you already know how to meditate but basically it is focusing attention towards the breath more than thinking. This can be done by encapsulating breathwork to be more mindful. When you are meditating simply focus on the breath until you think.

The whole point of meditating is to recognize when you are thinking. The more you can recognize your thoughts the less thoughts will affect you. As you may know most thoughts are distracting and negative.

You can change this by not letting them go unnoticed. The more you focus on your thoughts the more you start to question the validity of these words in the mind.

3. Exercise for an Hour

Running or exercising has many positive benefits in psychology. The Stoics believed that walks can turn a mood around in as little of 5 minutes. Many days were turned around with a simple run or walk.

I like to jog around town when I feel negative emotions like hopelessness or negativity. It helps me get my life back into perspective. I think jogging can be treated a lot like meditation if you do it right.

When jogging: try this: focus on your thoughts and see if they get in the way at all. If so: congrats: you’ve jumped the biggest hurtle: recognizing you have a thinking problem.

4. Read to Be Wise

If you think about it: this is probably the best time in the history of the world for online learning. There are so many different ages we can learn from. Want to read some Nietzsche and brush up your Nihilism? All it takes is a simple search and his entire anthology is at your disposal.

Want to read up on your Nicolas Naseem Taleb and not be “Fooled By Randomness”? Great! All it takes is a search and you are met with enough reading to fill your day to the brim.

There has never been a better time for online learning. There’s an old saying the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The next best time to plan a tree is now.

What’s holding you back from reading, today? If you are able, why not pick up a new book and read, today!

5. Be Kind to Someone Else

Kindness can be known as the 8th wonder of the world in terms of being able to turn around one’s day. In a bad mood? Try to be nice to someone and see that frown turn upside down. One thing I would do in school is if someone was sad: try to make them laugh. It’s hard to laugh and cry at the time. They are very conflicting emotions.

I find when you make someone sad laugh: it leads to a moment of happiness for both people. So my advice to anyone going through a tough time now-a-days is to try to help someone else out. This may be a friend; relative or a random hobo. If you can help one person out then it takes away the ego’s need to put oneself ahead of other people.

You start to encourage the tribe's well being instead of your own. This: I’ve found: is the best way to be a light in the dark.
